Let me start by saying that when I left work today I swore I smelled smoke. It being a very windy day I assumed (correctly) that a small fire had broken out in the foothills west of Denver. At the time I couldn’t see anything so I started my drive home. A half hour and several miles later I merge onto I-70 westbound, which affords a very nice view of downtown. Well today that view was partially obscured by a great plume of smoke drifting in from the the foothills. The sight was spectacular. If I had not been driving (why don’t we have self driving cars yet?) I would have snapped a picture on my phone. The scene was like something from a movie (think end of the world or possibly alien invasion). I know people are being evacuated from their homes and their is the chance for loss of life, but in that brief glance it was like living in a story…and I thought I would share.

So much for me being on a regular blogging schedule…it’s just so much easier to come home from work and sit on the couch…
Writing is inching along. I’ve managed to stay focused on the one project for almost a month now..so I’ve got that going for me.
More rejections for The Third Age queries I’ve sent out (but we signed Manning, so that makes everything better!!!). I’m to the point now where I think Third Age needs to spend some time on the shelf. I like the story, and I think it is one that needs to be told, but clearly something is not working. I will keep writing on the current project, then when I’m done with that I will come back and revisit TTA. Hopefully in a year or so I will have gained perspective on whatever is flawed with the story and be able to fix it.
On the bright side we’ve signed Manning…(wait am I saying that too much…nope) WE SIGNED MANNING!!!
Back to the scrivener’s pen as I try and write something that will get me published. Hopefully on the first day of Spring next year I will be much further down the published path.
(Knocks on wood)

It’s official Peyton Manning is a Bronco. Kind of strange to be typing those words. Just a few weeks ago I was convinced the Broncos would be stuck with Tebow for a few more years and now here we are with one of the best quarterbacks of all time.
I know there are some out there that don’t like the signing. I am most certainly not one of them. I don’t care if we go 0-16 under Manning, I would still prefer that than Tebow under center (yes I’m being serious). Don’t get me wrong, I liked beating the Steelers in the playoffs, but the only reason we got to the playoffs in the first place was because of luck. Talk all you want about Tebow’s dramatic come backs, but if he was even a mildly proficient QB, we wouldn’t have been in those situations to begin with.
I welcome Manning. I really hope we can win him another Super Bowl (or two).

One of the most absolute frustrating things to me is when there is something I want to write, but can’t. During my recent
unemployment vacation I started three separate projects. All three of the projects were ideas that I’ve had for a while and wanted to turn into a novel. None of them stuck. That’s not to say that they won’t in the future (one them will most certainly have to if I ever manage to get The Third Age published). For right now though they are relegated to my Novel Scraps folder in Word.
I don’t know what makes me not be able to complete a novel, but sometimes it just won’t happen. It’s not lack of effort (the sitting down and completing something) as I have now written four, I feel I have that part down (I know I’m fooling myself). It’s not writer’s block (knock on wood). Maybe it’s Stephen King’s mysterious men in the basement going on strike. Who knows? I certainly don’t.
Neurotic? Probably…but (quoting Stephen King here again) “A writer is someone who has taught their mind to misbehave”.
No sympathy needed. Just sharing with you what it’s like in a writer’s mind. It’s much like a rollercoaster. Every time you make it to the top of one hill you quickly find yourself rolling off it. In which case you just have to throw your hands in the air and yell all the way down.

My wife came across this piece from our favorite physicist (yes we have one…why don’t you?) Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I find this one of the most beautiful and hopeful sentiments I have heard expressed in a long time. It gives me just a little bit of hope for humanity.

It has taken me (is still taking) awhile to get back in the work groove. Not having all day to surf the internet and dream up new things to blog really cuts down on what I post here. I will try to blog a little more regularly during the week (I swear).
Let’s see…while I was gone Romney continues to be Romney, Limbaugh continues to be an ass, and Santorum continues to be the second coming of Torquemada.
In space news Virgin Galactic will start powered tests of their spaceship and Space X’s capsule will be the first private spacecraft to visit the space station next month.
In writing news I’m struggling through the initials stages of my next project still. This one has been a bear. The last two novels I completed were fairly easy to build momentum and finish. This one…not so much.
Well, I hope you are well on this fine Sunday. I promise to be back here this week.
